Isuzu D-Max #1, VW Tiguan and Proton Saga up – Finest Promoting Automobiles Weblog


Proton has reentered the Kenyan market in 2022.

The Kenyan new light vehicle market is down -10.5% year-on-year in 2022 to 6,221 units. When adding medium and heavy commercial vehicles we come to 13,352 sales, off -6.3% on 2021. In the brands ranking and counting MCV and HCV, Isuzu reigns supreme with 44.7% share helped by its truck sales. It is followed by Toyota at 21.3%, meaning the top 2 brands hold exactly two-thirds of the Kenyan market this year. Mitsubishi comes third at 8.9% ahead of Tata and Ford. Volkswagen is up to #6, Mercedes up to #7 and Mahindra up to #10. Notice also Proton at #13 and BMW at #20.

Model-wise and this time only with light vehicles, the Isuzu D-Max (+16.4%) goes against the negative market to hold onto the top spot with a gigantic 22.7% share. The Toyota Hilux (-1.5%) ranks second once again while the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 (+26.4%) is up to #3. The Toyota Hiace (+33.8%) gains three spots on last year to #4 while the Ford Ranger (+3.5%) is up one to round out the Top 5. The VW Tiguan (+130.4%) soars to #7, the Mahindra Scorpio (+183.6%) to #8, the Nissan Navara lands at #11, the Toyota Urban Cruiser (+30.8%) is up five to #13 and the Proton Saga is #14.
