If you have an eligible TD Rewards credit card, you’re now eligible for up to one year of complimentary Uber One membership.
From May 23, 2023 to May 23, 2024, eligible cardholders are able to sign up for a free Uber One membership for a six- or 12-month period, depending on their card tier.
What Is Uber One?
Uber One is Uber’s membership program, which provides extra benefits to Uber’s most frequent riders and eaters. Benefits of Uber One include:
- Unlimited $0 delivery fees on Uber Eats orders of at least $15, as well as grocery and non-restaurant orders of at least $40
- 5% off Uber Eats orders of at least $15 from eligible restaurants
- 5% off eligible rides, with access to top-rated drivers
- Rotating monthly offers and promotions
Here in Canada, Uber One is typically priced at $9.99/month, although TD credit card holders can now activate a one-time free Uber One membership with varying durations depending on their card tier.
Which TD Credit Cards Are Eligible?
In total, four TD credit cards, and even a debit card linked to a specific chequing account, are eligible for a free Uber One membership:
Your card tier will determine how many months of a free Uber One membership you’ll get to enjoy.
The entry-level TD Rewards credit cards will get six months of free Uber One membership:
The core and small business TD Rewards credit cards will get 12 months of free Uber One membership:
Even if you don’t have any of the above credit cards, you can still qualify for six months of free Uber One membership if you have a TD Access Card with Visa Debit linked to a new eligible TD chequing account, which include any of the following:
- TD All-Inclusive Banking Plan
- TD Unlimited Chequing Account
- TD Every Day Chequing Account
- TD Student Chequing Account
It’s important to note that you’ll need to open one of the above bank accounts between May 23, 2023 and May 23, 2024 in order to be eligible.
How to Activate Your Free Uber One Membership
To activate your free Uber One membership, you’ll need to follow these steps:
- Open your Uber or Uber Eats app (make sure you have the latest version downloaded).
- Add your TD Rewards credit card or debit card as a payment method to your account.
- The offer will automatically pop up within 48 hours once your card is linked, and you’ll be able to activate your free Uber One membership.
If you already have a TD Rewards credit card linked to your Uber or Uber Eats account, you’ll also automatically be presented with the screen to activate a free Uber One membership within the next 48 hours.
And if you’re already an Uber One member, then you can still take advantage of the free membership offer that corresponds to your TD Rewards credit card tier – you simply won’t be billed after the next billing cycle for the next six or 12 months, depending on which card you hold.
After your free membership period ends, you’ll automatically be billed at the default Uber One pricing of $9.99/month, unless you cancel before that.
If you intend to cancel, make sure to set an alert to do so prior to the billing date following your six- or 12-month free period.
Registration Window
This is a one-time offer from TD and Uber Canada with a registration window of one year’s time.
Regardless of which credit card you hold, you must activate your free Uber One membership by May 23, 2024 in order to take advantage of this offer.
As long as the activation is completed by May 23, 2024, the six- or 12-month durations will apply to your Uber One membership going forward.
This also means that you can also apply for a new TD Rewards credit card if you don’t have one right now, and then use it to activate its corresponding Uber One offer.
Since the free Uber One membership is limited to one per Uber account, there’s no advantage to waiting to activate the offer, unless you plan on using Uber One benefits much more frequently in the distant future.
For most eligible cardholders, it makes sense to go ahead and activate the membership as soon as possible.
One Offer Per Uber Account
Each Uber account is limited to activating one free Uber One membership, even if you happen to hold multiple TD Rewards credit cards. For example, if you have a TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card and a TD Business Travel Visa Card, you can only benefit from one Uber One membership linked to your account.
If you have multiple cards across the two different tiers, it would therefore make sense to activate the offer using the highest-tier credit card in order to earn the free Uber One membership for the longest duration (e.g., if you have entry-level and core TD Rewards credit cards, be sure to use the core card to activate the 12-month offer).
Once you’ve activated your own membership, you have a few options for what to do with your remaining credit cards, or the eligible credit cards for anyone else in your household.
You could link them to a friend or family member’s Uber account and offer them a free Uber One membership – keeping in mind that you can still order food and rides for yourself using another individual’s Uber account.
For example, if you typically order delivery as a household, then you could do the following:
- Use a core TD credit card to activate one 12-month free Uber One membership on your own Uber account as of today
- Then, use another core TD Rewards credit card to activate a second 12-month free Uber One membership on your spouse’s Uber account in early May 2024
This would give you cheaper eats with $0 delivery fees as a household all the way through to May 2025.
