Rothy’s has long been lauded as the be-all, end-all everyday shoe brand. The reason? The shoes are all soft, flexible, machine-washable, and many styles are sold in an impressive color range. While The Point ($149) and The Flat ($129) have been shopper favorites for years, Rothy’s figured it was high time they added another sandal to the mix (as their last iteration, which launched in 2021, have long since sold out). And to say that the internet lost its collective mind is an understatement.

Since releasing the Rothy’s Weekend Slide ($139) on May 2, mentions of the “Rothy Weekend Slide” have amassed an impressive 15.9 million views on TikTok, with users dubbing the silhouette everything from the ideal neutral summer sandal to the optimal travel silhouette. Naturally, I had to see if they were worth the hype so I called in a sample of The Weekend Slide in the color Oat. Ahead, read my honest review of these already-selling-out sandals.

My honest review of Rothy’s Weekend Slide sandals

Let me start by addressing the elephant in the room: As a color-lover, I’d be lying if I said I was impressed by the Rothy’s Weekend Slide shades—cream (Oat), black (Black), and olive (Garden)—considering they’re all neutral. Seeing as one of Rothy’s biggest draws is the brand’s command of the rainbow, I would have loved to see these criss-cross sandals launch in the brand’s iconic Dragon Fruit, Shamrock, and Periwinkle shades, just to name a few. That said, the lack of color selection is my only complaint about these already-beloved sandals.

Here’s why the Rothy’s Weekend Slides really are worth the hype. For starters, they have a supportive base. The contoured footbed, which sits atop a tortoiseshell-colored welted sole, is made of rubber, so it has a touch of cushiness to it without lacking ample arch support. Plus, since they’re rubber, they won’t stain or retain foot odor the way some other contoured sandal footbeds (ahem, Birks) are known to.

Then, there are the straps. While they’re not really stretchy, they have a touch of give—just like the Rothy’s flats. They’re also made of the same signature thread, which is crafted with recycled plastic woven with natural hemp fibers. The result is soft, lightweight, breathable uppers that have yet to dig into my sensitive, blister-prone feet. Suffice to say: I understand social media’s response to this launch. The sandals truly are the ultimate casual slide, without looking like the athletic or “recovery” silhouette that typically fills that niche (think Oofos). Now, I can only hope they release new colors, and stat.
