Editor’s note: This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information and offers.

If you plan to stay at IHG hotels this summer, you’ll be happy to know that IHG One Rewards just opened registration for a new bonus points promotion.

With this promotion, IHG members can choose to earn 2,000 points for every two nights or 10,000 points for every four nights of eligible paid stays completed between June 6 and August 31. You must register for this promotion before your first stay; here’s what you need to know.

This IHG One Rewards promotion is relatively straightforward: you can earn 2,000 bonus points for every two eligible nights or 10,000 bonus points for every four eligible nights you stay between June 6 and August 31. The nights do not have to be part of the same stay to count.

You can pre-register for this promotion until June 5, although registration will remain open throughout the promotion period. When registering, you must choose whether you will earn 2,000 bonus points for every two eligible nights or 10,000 bonus points for every four eligible nights.

You must register for this promotion before your first eligible stay. But unless your travel plans through August are already set, you may want to wait until shortly before your first eligible stay to register. Doing so lets you decide which version of the promotion to select based on the number of eligible nights you plan to stay. Here’s the link to register.

You might wonder which stays with IHG between June 6 and August 31 are eligible. The terms and conditions for this promotion define an eligible stay as “a minimum 1-night stay at a participating hotel booked under a Qualifying Rate, with a total spend exceeding $30 USD (or local equivalent) for each night.”

However, if you redeem IHG points, use an IHG anniversary night or book a points and cash stay, you won’t benefit from this promotion. The promotion’s terms and conditions note that bookings “made through online travel agencies or other reservation sites such as booking.com or expedia.com also do not qualify.” And if you book more than one room on the same night, you’ll only receive bonus points for one room.

Almost all IHG hotels participate, including Mr. and Mrs. Smith properties you can book through IHG. However, the terms and conditions specifically exclude Six Senses properties that don’t participate in IHG One Rewards and Iberostar Beachfront resorts that aren’t yet integrated into IHG One Rewards.

When paying for your stay, consider using an IHG credit card, like the IHG® Rewards Premier Credit Card, IHG® Rewards Traveler Credit Card or IHG® Rewards Premier Business Credit Card to earn more IHG points. But, if you value transferable points highly, you may prefer to use a card like the American Express® Green Card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card to pay for your stay.

Bottom line

Combining this promotion with bonuses from elite status and an IHG credit card is a great way to earn IHG points on paid stays. Typically, IHG members earn 10 base points per dollar spent at most IHG brands. And IHG elite members get bonus points based on their status tier.

Consider your upcoming IHG stays before registering for this promotion. You may want to wait until shortly before your first eligible stay to register if your summer travel plans aren’t firm at this time.
