Carriers Enhance On-Time Efficiency in April


North American carrier on-time performance in April reversed its downturn from March. 

Average North American airline on-time performance in April was 73.2 percent, up from 71.4 percent last month, according to Cirium’s monthly report. 

Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines and American Airlines again took the top three spots, with each showing an improved monthly score. United remained fourth but dropped slightly to 78 percent from 78.1 percent. WestJet showed the most movement, gaining nearly 10 percentage points to 74.4 percent, placing above the month’s average and jumping to fifth place from ninth.

Air Canada, after placing last for the past 11 months, improved to 66.8 percent from 60.3 percent and landed in seventh place. Its performance had been as low as 34.8 percent in July 2022.

Both Delta and American made the top global on-time performance list, at sixth and 10th, respectively.

Airlines canceled more flights in April than in March, increasing nearly 15 percent to 12,311.

WestJet had the highest completion factor at 99.3 percent, followed by Alaska at 99.2 percent and American at 98.6 percent. 

A flight is considered on time if the aircraft arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time.
