Raft of Volvo fashions get new options with software program replace

Volvo has rolled out its latest over-the-air software update to vehicles with Google built-in, bringing a range of new features and tweaks.

A highlight of the carmaker’s version 2.9 OTA software update includes new features for Apple CarPlay. A number of these functionalities were also added to the Polestar 2 that also has Google built-in.

Phone call information is now available in the Apple CarPlay tile on the touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, as well as the head-up display. Phone calls can also be handled using the steering wheel buttons.

“Now Playing” information, as well as “Play/Pause” and “Next/Previous” buttons are now available in the Apple CarPlay tile on the central touchscreen.

Lastly, Apple Maps can now be displayed on the digital instrument cluster.

Other changes that are part of this version 2.9 OTA software update include the following:

  • Switching between Pilot Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with the left steering wheel buttons
  • Control settings to fold door mirrors when locking the vehicle (choice will be connected to user profiles)
  • Improved stability of the infotainment system
  • User profiles now correctly switch to the currently used key
  • Radio channel remains unchanged when starting new drive cycle
  • Drivetrain optimisation adjustments

Volvo claims this particular OTA update will be sent to over 650,000 vehicles globally with Google built-in.

The first Volvo vehicle to receive Google built-in with over-the-air software capability was the all-electric XC40 Recharge SUV which arrived locally in mid-2021.

This functionality was later expanded to all its 2023 model year vehicles, including the older XC90 large SUV, S60 sedan, and V60 Cross Country wagon.

As previously detailed, Volvo plans to become an EV-only brand by 2030, with its Australian line-up going all-electric by 2026.
