How a lot would you pay for this legendary Subaru WRX STi 22B?

In the Subaru WRX STI world, no star shines as brightly as the 22B.

Just 425 were built, the majority of which were delivered in Japan, and its handmade two-door coupe body is unique in the Subaru world.

With a 2.2-litre turbocharged boxer allegedly making 206kW of power, and actually making more than that, the 22B would hit 100km/h in just 4.7 seconds from standstill.

Even in 2023 that’s fast; in 1998 when it launched it put most supercars in the shade.

Now, one is up for sale in Australia. The Japanese import is listed on auction site Collecting Cars, and is expected to fetch up to $500,000 at auction.

According to the auction site, it’s been more than a year since one went on sale locally. The last to list sold for $360,000.

The example about to go under the hammer is car 258, and it has 71,000km on the odometer. As you can see from the images, the Japanese-delivered rally tearaway is in very good condition.

The 22B takes on extra significance now Subaru has decided not to bother with a new WRX STI.
