Mustang GT3 racer joins Blue Oval secure at Le Mans

Ford Performance has welcomed yet another racing Mustang to its stable.

Revealed at the 24 Heures du Mans at Circuit de la Sarthe in France, the latest Mustang will go head-to-head with competitors from the likes of BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, and Audi in the FIA GT3 category from next year.

Power for the GT3 comes from a version of the Coyote V8 doing service in the Mustang Supercar racing in Australia. It displaces 5.4 litres, and the bodywork is made of carbon fibre as you’d expect.

It’s been manufactured by Multimatic, the Canadian firm responsible for the Ford GT that won its class at Le Mans in 2018.

There’s a bespoke “short-arm” suspension under the skin, along with an aggressive aerodynamics package that can be adapted for wherever in the world a team is racing.

Also new for the Mustang GT3 is the Ford Performance logo, designed by Troy Lee.

Ford showed off renders of the GT3, GT4, NASCAR, and NHRA Factory X racing homologated versions of its latest Mustang at launch.

Ford also said newly-designed models will debut in the NASCAR Cup series and NHRA Factory X racing in the “coming years”.

The new Mustang Supercar is now racing in Australia, going head-to-head with the Chevrolet Camaro in the 2023 Supercars season.
