First Top 5 finish for the Toyota bZ4X in Iceland.

2,578 new cars hit Icelandic roads in May, a 22.5% year-on-year improvement. Given May 2022 was already up 57.2% on the year prior this is a great performance. The year-to-date tally is now up 14.5% to 7,703. Toyota (+20.6%) holds onto the brands top spot with a strong 22.3% share, distancing Tesla (+18350%!) at 14.3%. Kia (+97.8%) drops one spot on April ahead of Volkswagen (+273.1%) and Mazda (+213%). Dacia (+43.2%) falls three ranks to #6 above a struggling Hyundai (-50.5%) and Volvo (-1.5%). Audi (+211.8%), Mercedes (+84%) and Subaru (+271.4%) shine below.

Model-wise, the Tesla Model Y (13.2% share) is back to its dominant self, selling over 2.5 times any other nameplates in the market. Toyota manages to place the next three models: the RAV4 (5.2% share), Yaris (4.7%) and bZ4X (4%), the latter hitting a record ranking and first inside the Icelandic Top 5. The Mazda CX-5 and last month’s leader the Dacia Duster follows, with the Duster holding onto the 2nd spot year-to-date below the Model Y. The Kia Stonic surges from outside the April Top 20 directly to #7 and the VW ID.4 is up 11 spots on April to #9. Notice also the Audi Q8 e-tron at #19.
