How you can Make 6 Scrumptious Scorching Open Confronted Sandwiches With Leftovers

An ordinary sandwich for lunch can be boring, but a hot open-faced sandwich is a delicious alternative for a more satisfying way to rotate your menu. In this post, I will share how one simple recipe can be made to create several unique hot open faced sandwiches along with thrifty tips that can even help save leftovers from going to waste.

Imagine a thick slice of crusty homemade bread or half of hard roll spread with about two tablespoons of spaghetti or pizza sauce followed by a layer of cooked, seasoned sauerkraut like my Bavarian sauerkraut topped with velvety melting American or a healthy sliver of Velveeta cheese. Place this in the microwave for a minute or so, which depends on the thickness of the bread and how many are on your plate at once. Heat it enough to warm the ingredients and the cheese melts.

Another version of this hot sandwich is turning it into an Italian-inspired one by eliminating the sauerkraut, replacing American cheese for a slice Mozzarella or provolone. Feel free to add a few slices of pepperoni, if so desired.

Yet, there is more that you can do with this Italian version of this sandwich. If you have any leftover ground beef, chicken, ham or roast beef, this can be used to pile on that sandwich for a fabulous hot lunch.

Still, there is another alternative and enjoyable way to change this hot opened faced sandwich into a ruben-inspired recipe. Instead of the spaghetti sauce, you can substitute a thousand island dressing and top that sauerkraut with a few slices of corned beef.

This base can also be adapted to help use other leftover vegetables like cauliflower, broccoli, asparagus, zucchini or any squash, etc. that you have in the refrigerator for other hot open faced sandwiches. You can take a teflon brush and coat that half of a hard roll or thick slice of crusty bread with olive oil instead of the sauce, add finely chopped leftover meats or a vegetable, then top with your favorite cheese.

You can do a lot with cooked beans such as making a sandwich spread to replace the spaghetti sauce mentioned in the base. Add the cooked sauerkraut, the cheese, leftover meat or vegetables and pop in the microwave and add a spoon more of the spread on top before taking it to the microwave.

These are just six ways that you can transform your lunch through one sandwich recipe! Please share it with your friends and family and come back to my blog for more delicious and home-tested recipes.
