Shane Hitz is a guest blog contributor born and raised in Central Wisconsin. Shane’s has a deep passion for riding and designing routes. In 2019, Shane Hitz race directed the inaugural IRONBULL Red Granite Grinder. In 2020, he put in over 1,600 miles scouting for the race to dial in the courses. Recently, Shane started a blog where he writes about and shares his gravel and bikepacking routes for others to enjoy. Shane created and led the Tour de Nicolet for five years. Shane attempted his first Individual Time Trial (ITT) with the goal to set a Fastest Known Time (FKT) on the SoNic 1.2 route under 24 hours, a 225 mile route Shane designed throughout the Northwoods. Although Shane is a frequent bikepacker, this was his first attempt to ride through the night where he experienced more wildlife than ever before.
