Marriott Bonvoy Bevy vs. Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful welcome bonus

Currently, the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy has an elevated welcome offer that’s much more valuable than the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful’s offer.

  • Marriott Bonvoy Bevy: Earn up to 175,000 bonus points: 125,000 points after spending $5,000 on purchases in your first six months from account opening and an additional 50,000 after you stay six eligible paid nights at Bonvoy hotels through Jan. 31, 2024. Offer ends Aug. 10.
  • Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful: Earn 85,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in your first three months from account opening.

TPG values Marriott Bonvoy points at 0.84 cents each, effectively making the bonus on the Bevy worth up to $1,470 and that on the Bountiful worth up to $714.

Winner: Bevy. Its current full welcome bonus is worth over twice as much as the Bountiful’s bonus.

Marriott Bonvoy Bevy vs. Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful benefits

The Marriott Bonvoy Bevy and Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful have almost identical benefits. With both cards, you’ll get automatic Gold Elite status and 1,000 bonus points for each eligible Bonvoy stay as well as travel and purchase protections.

Notably missing from both cards is an automatic annual free night certificate. With both the Bevy and the Bountiful, you’ll need to spend $15,000 on your card in a year to get a free night. Since many hotel cards offer an annual free night without a spending requirement, you’ll want to calculate whether you can get enough value from either card to justify their $250 annual fee. If not, you may decide you want to get a card that comes with a free annual night, like the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless Credit Card.

Despite their similarities, a difference between the cards’ benefits is that the Bevy includes car rental insurance.

Winner: Bevy. In an almost identical benefits list, the addition of rental car insurance gives the Bevy an edge over the Bountiful.

Earning points with the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy vs. Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful

The Marriott Bonvoy Bevy and Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful have the same earning structure. With either card, you’ll earn 6 points per dollar on eligible Marriott Bonvoy purchases, 4 points per dollar on the first $15,000 you spend at restaurants and supermarkets each year (note that the Bevy card limits these bonus earnings to U.S. supermarkets only and takeout/delivery services in the U.S. only) and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases.

Winner: Bountiful. Although the earn rates are very similar, the Bevy’s supermarket and dining categories are limited to the U.S.

Redeeming points with the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy vs. Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful

As both the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy and the Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful earn Marriott Bonvoy points, they offer the same redemption options.

You’ll almost always get the best value from your points by redeeming them for a stay at a Marriott Bonvoy property. TPG points and miles reporter Kyle Olsen takes advantage of the fifth-night-free benefit when possible and uses points to book rooms in hotels that would otherwise be unaffordable to get the most value from his Bonvoy points.

In addition to booking stays at Bonvoy properties, you can transfer your points to one of 40 partner airline programs, including United MileagePlus and Delta SkyMiles. This redemption generally won’t yield a good value for your points, though, so we recommend only doing this if you need to top off your airline account balance.

Additionally, you can use your points for gift cards and merchandise through Marriott’s shopping portal, but again, we recommend avoiding this route to get maximum value from your points.

Winner: Tie. Both cards earn Marriott Bonvoy points and offer the same redemption options.

Should I get the Marriott Bonvoy Bevy or Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful?

In addition to its current higher welcome bonus, the Bonvoy Bevy’s rental car insurance benefit makes it the better option. However, if you have rental car insurance through another card and can earn a better welcome bonus on the Bonvoy Bountiful, it might be the better choice.

Bottom line

The Amex Marriott Bonvoy Bevy card and Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful card are very similar. Which one is better for you depends on which benefits better fit your lifestyle and travel habits as well as whether you’re eligible for one card but not the other. And if you’re looking for a card with different Bonvoy benefits or a lower annual fee, you’ll likely find that a different Marriott Bonvoy card is a better fit.
