Video has been captured of the next-generation Nissan Patrol wearing heavy camouflage while testing in the Middle East.
Snapped by Motoring.Qa, the Patrol prototype features more squared-off tail lights and new slimline LED headlights.
Nissan is remaining tight-lipped on when it will reveal the Y63 Patrol.
Overseas, Infiniti has been spied testing a next-generation version of its QX80 – a restyled, more upmarket version of the Patrol – ahead of an expected debut in mid-2024.
Automotive News reports the QX80 – which was discontinued locally in 2019 – will scrap its V8 engine for a twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that produces 335kW of power which is up from 298kW.
Should the Patrol also adopt this engine, it would also follow the rival Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series in ditching V8 power.
Both the Patrol and QX80 use the same boxy body shape with largely cosmetic changes like the headlights, tail lights and interior design.
Nissan has sold the Y62 Patrol since 2010. It is also sold in some markets, like the US, as the Armada.
The left-hand drive Armada’s interior was updated for 2021 to include a new 12.3-inch infotainment system, wireless charging, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto configuration.
While the right-hand drive Patrol received the external updates applied to the Armada, it stuck with its old 2010-vintage interior. It lacks modern features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Last year, a report from Nikkei Asia claimed Nissan has ended developing internal combustion engines for the European market and will phase out development for Chinese and Japanese markets as well.
Nissan will reportedly continue “limited” development of petrol engines for the US market, primarily for use in pickup trucks, where its Nissan Frontier is the fifth best-selling ute within its segment.
It’s reported the brand will still continue the development of new hybrid powertrains.
