Volvo sales are up 48.2% year-on-year in July.
18,599 new cars found a home in Switzerland in July, a 18.7% year-on-year improvement leading to a year-to-date volume up 13.6% to 142,351 units. 4×4 sales climb 21.5% to 9,512 and 51.1% share vs. 50% in July 2022 and are up 15.1% year-to-date to 71,829 and 50.5% share vs. 49.8% over the first 7 months of 2022. Petrol sales drop -7% to 6,301 and 33.9% share vs. 43.2% a year ago but are up 5.2% YTD to 50,382 and 35.4% share vs. 38.2% last year. Diesel edges up 0.4% to 1,981 and 10.7% share vs. 12.6% but is down -10.2% YTD to 13,846 and 9.7% share vs. 12.3%. HEV soar 39.5% to 4,887 and 26.3% share vs. 22.4% in July 2022, and are up 25.3% YTD to 38,839 and 27.3% share vs. 24.8% last year. PHEV gain 28% for the month to 1,777 and 9.6% share vs. 8.9% a year ago and are up 14.8% YTD to 12,410 and 8.7% share vs. 8.6%. Finally BEV surge 81% to 3,649 and 19.6% share vs. 12.9% in July 2022 and are up 34% YTD to 26,813 and 18.8% share vs. 16% over the same period a year ago.
In the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+17.1%) dominates at 13.1% share vs. 10.7% year-to-date despite trailing the market slightly this month. Skoda (+31.4%) is a lot more dynamic at #2, a ranking it also holds year-to-date vs. #5 over the Full Year 2022. Audi (+27.3%) ensures the podium is entirely composed of VW Group brands as it is also the case year-to-date. BMW (+32.1%) and Mercedes (-13.5%) follow. Toyota (+46%) ranking #6 means the Top 6 brands are identical to the year-to-date order. Renault (+58.5%), Volvo (+48.2%) and Ford (+25.4%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Tesla (+466.3%) surges ahead but drops one spot year-to-date to #9 vs. #8 over the Full Year 2022.
Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+60.3%) is back to #1 with 2.5% share, distancing the Audi Q3 (+62.9%) and VW Tiguan (+11.1%). The VW Polo (+65.5%) is up 8 spots on June to #4 ahead of the VW Golf (+43.7%). Still #1 year-to-date, the Tesla Model Y (+418%) falls to #6 this month but shoots up year-on-year. The Skoda Enyaq (+41.1%) confirms its success in Switzerland with a 7th place, it even ranks #4 year-to-date. The Mercedes GLC (+25.7%) is up 20 ranks on last month to #8 and the Volvo XC40 (+89.8%) up 10 spots to #9. Recent launches haven’t been particularly well received, with the most successful of them, the Toyota Corolla Cross, ranking at #58.
