Enjoy Community Fireworks

Celebrate Labor Day with an evening of fireworks in Gaithersburg. After a two year hiatus, the ever-popular Gaithersburg Labor Day Parade, one of the City’s oldest traditions, returns to the streets of Olde Towne on Monday, September 4, 2023, at 1 p.m. Now in its 85th year, this rain or shine event includes high school marching bands, dance groups, costumed characters, antique cars and fire engines, equestrian units, clowns, and more, all winding their way down East Diamond and Russell Avenues.

Visit African American Heritage & Historic Sites

September is International Underground Railroad Month. Take an African American Heritage Road Trip in UpCounty, visit the new Josiah Henson Museum & Park, venture along the Underground Railroad Experience Trail at Woodlawn Manor Cultural Park, or view the bullet that killed Abraham Lincoln at the National Museum of Health and Medicine.

Play a Round of Golf

Grab a few friends and head to Top Golf Germantown for great food, specialty drinks and a fun round of high-tech golf. For a fun family outing, visit the 18-hole miniature golf course at South Germantown Recreational Park before it closes for the season.

 

Play in The Trees

With 15 separate trails of varying levels of difficulty, The Adventure Park at Sandy Spring offers outdoor fun for the whole family. Each trail has zip lines that primarily consist of “bridges” between tree platforms made of rope, cable and wood configurations. You will develop skills, endurance, and confidence while breathing in the fresh air.
