Cupra as much as report #8 in shy market – Finest Promoting Automobiles Weblog

Cupra sales are up 51.4% year-on-year in July

17,566 new cars hit Austrian roads in July, a shy 9.4% lift on July 2022. This is down -11.7% on July 2021 (19,902), down -29.1% on July 2020 (24,784) and down -44.2% on July 2019 when 31,454 cars were registered. The year-to-date volume now stands at 144,256 units, up 15.7% year-on-year. Volkswagen (-0.2%) underperforms, signing the only YoY drop in the Top 8 and falling to 12.8% share vs. 14.5% so far this year Skoda (+8.9%) matches the market to 10.5% share with the next three carmakers vastly outpacing the overall growth. BMW is up 44%, Audi up 34.6% and Seat up 53.8%. Below a struggling Mercedes (+1.1%) and a strong Toyota (+44.2%), Cupra (+51.4%) beats its ranking record at #8, for its 2nd appearance inside the Austrian Top 10 after last May (#10).

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+24%) dominates the charts head and shoulders with a 3.3% share vs. 2% for the 2nd-placed model, the Toyota Yaris/Cross (+25.2%). The Dacia Sandero (-37.2%) is back up 15 spots on June to #3 but sinks year-to-date as it led the ranking in July 2022. The VW Bus (+62%) shoots up at #4 while the VW Golf (-19.5%) falls to #4. Strong month for the Skoda Enyaq (+29.1%) at #6 vs. #17 year-to-date, but not as strong as the BMW X1 (+602.6%) up to #7. The Tesla Model Y (+474.5%) falls to #8 but still manages an outstanding year-on-year gain as the backloaded quarters progressively disappear for Tesla. Notice also the Cupra Leon (+852%), Seat Leon (+443.9%) and BMW X3 (+59.1%) shining further down. Added sales of Cupra and Seat Leon would bring the Leon nameplate to #2 with 2.6% share.
