Toyota GR Corolla: Mechanical tweaks detailed abroad

Toyota Japan has announced tweaks to its track-ready GR Corolla to improve its dynamics.

The updated model will be limited to 550 examples, and Toyota will select owners from a lottery draw.

We’ve contacted Toyota Australia to confirm if the updates will apply to new GR Corollas for our market.

Mechanical tweaks for the updated model were implemented based on what Toyota learned from a variety of motorsport experiences including the Super Taikyu series.

The front and rear suspension have been tweaked for greater rigidity.

New rib-shaped bolts will be used for the front suspension member and steering gear box, while at the rear wider bolts are used from the suspension member and body.

Toyota says this upgrade will improve steering operation and straight running stability.

The company says it has also improved steering stability by improving the shape of the front air intakes, optimising airflow.

A new colour has been added to the Japanese line-up which now brings the total colour count to six. The Cyan metallic colour option will be limited to 50 units.

For customers who receive a Cyan metallic GR Corolla, the interior will also feature black leather upholstery with blue stitching.

Toyota Japan says that it could increase its limited production run as the shortage for semiconductors is easing.

The lottery opened on August 23 and will close on September 11 with winners announced on September 22.

According to Toyota’s announcement, pricing for the model is ¥5,250,000 (AU$55,974) before on-road costs.

Pricing for the GR Corolla was adjusted in Australia from July 1.

The GTS is priced at $64,190 before on-road costs, up $1890, while the Morizo Edition has a list price of $76,427 before on-roads, down $1373 due to changes in the Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold.
