Dacia (+42.1%), Jeep (+106.4%) impress in market up 12% – Finest Promoting Vehicles Weblog


Dacia Duster sales in Italy are up 89% year-on-year in August.

New car sales in Italy climb 12% year-on-year in August to 79,756 units, which means the year-to-date volume is now up 20.3% to 1,040,560. In terms of sales channels, private sales are up 16.3% to 47,961 and 59.2% share vs. 57.2% in August 2022, self registrations surge 62.7% to 10,682, long term leases drop -3.9% to 16.877 and 20.8% share vs. 24.4% a year ago, short term rentals sink -81.2% to just 529 and company sales surge 28.5% to 4,980. Year-to-date, private sales are up 10.5% to 573,077 and 54.3% share vs. 59.2% over the same period in 2022, self registrations are up 31.3% to 99,286, long term leases soar 40.4%  to 266,036 and 25.2% share vs. 21.6%, short term rentals gain 33.9% to 55,766 and 5.3% share vs. 4.8% and company sales advance 19.1% to 60,717.

Looking at sales by fuel/propulsion type, petrol sales manage a 25.4% year-on-year gain for the month to 24,090 and 29.7% share vs. 26.7% a year ago, diesel edges up 5.5% to 13,785 and 17% share vs. 18.1%, LPG soars 26.3% to 7,923 and 9.8% share vs. 8.7%, HEV skids -1.3% to 27,726 and 34.2% share vs. 39%, including 7,326 full hybrids (+18.7%) and 20,400 mild hybrids (-6.9%), PHEVs are up 22.8% to 3,356 and BEVs surge 76.8% to 4,081 but still only account for 5% of the market vs. 3.2% in August 2022. Year-to-date, petrol is up 21.6% to 296,654 and 28.1% share vs. 27.8% over the same period in 2022, diesel is up 12.6% to 201,188 and 19.1% vs. 20.4%, LPG is up 26.3% to 94,562 and 9% share vs. 8.5%, HEV is up 26.4% to 371,711 and 35.2% share vs. 33.6%, that includes 98,019 full hybrids (+26.7%) and 273,692 mild hybrids (+26.3%). PHEVs are up 7.2% to 48,470 and BEVs up 32.4% to 41,069 and 3.9% share vs. 3.5% over the first 8 months of 2022.

In the brands ranking, Fiat (-20.4%) goes completely against the market with a heavy year-on-year fall to 10.7% share vs. 11.2% so far this year. Volkswagen (-2.1%) follows as usual but is weak at 7% of the market vs. 8% YTD. Toyota (+9.3%) also trails the market but climbs back up seven spots on July to return to the third place it holds YTD. Dacia (+42.1%) continues to impress at #4 whereas Ford (-27.1%) tumbles down. Below lukewarm Peugeot (+2.8%) and Audi (+2.9%), Jeep (+106.4%) surges ahead but stays in 8th position. It’s a very strong month for Renault (+28.4%) at #8 whereas Citroen (-4.2%) disappoints. BMW (+31.2%) and Kia (+21.1%) also beat the market, with Tesla (+2029%) – up to 2.7% share at #18, MG (+277.8%) and Cupra (+89%) all very impressive.

Model-wise, the Fiat Panda (-15.7%) underperforms to 5.4% share vs. 6.1% YTD, it distances the Lancia Ypsilon (-12%) also in difficulty year-on-year. The Dacia Sandero (+27.8%) lodges another excellent score at #3 and easily stays 2nd year-to-date. The Fiat 500 (-47.8%) implodes year-on-year but rallies back up five spots on July to #4, a ranking it also holds year-to-date. Strikingly, the Dacia Duster (+89%) is the only additional Top 10 member to beat the market, with the Renault Captur (+2.8%) shy and the Citroen C3 (-2.1%), Peugeot 208 (-4.4%), Toyota Yaris (-8.5%) and Ford Puma (-43.2%) all in negative. Below, notice the MG ZS (+275.8%) up to a splendid 12th place, Toyota Aygo X (+203.5%) and Fiat 500X (+137.5%) in great shape while the Tesla Model 3 goes from 0 sales in August 2022 to 1,192 this month (#21).
