Previous canine, new methods? Nissan Patrol units gross sales report

The Nissan Patrol is one of the oldest new cars on sale in Australia at the moment, but it’s defying its age by setting yet another monthly sales record.

In August this year Nissan sold 1032 examples of the Patrol, which beats the previous record of 918 examples in March 2022.

This latest record-breaking monthly sales amount takes the annual Patrol sales tally to 4374 examples, up 8.8 per cent year-on-year.

Although the Patrol set a new monthly record last month, it was still outsold by its closest rival, the Toyota LandCruiser. 1641 examples of the LandCruiser were sold during this August, though this tally also includes wagon versions of the agricultural LandCruiser 70 Series.

The current, Y62-generation Nissan Patrol launched in Australia in 2012 and received a facelift in 2021. Nissan also recently upped the pricing of the Patrol by up to $2740.

The Nissan Patrol range currently opens at $84,900 before on-roads for the Ti, and extends to $97,600 before on-roads for the Ti-L.

A hardcore Patrol Warrior, fettled by local outfit Premcar, is due to launch locally late this year.

As recently reported, the next-generation Armada, as the Patrol is known in North America, was shown to dealers at a Las Vegas conference.

Dealers told Automotive News Nissan will swap the current car’s 5.6-litre naturally aspirated V8 for a twin-turbocharged V6 engine.

This will reportedly pump out 316kW of power. For reference, the current Patrol’s V8 produces 298kW and 560Nm.

One dealer told Automotive News the Patrol has a “Range Rover-like” appearance and is both bigger and more rugged-looking.

Nissan has already teased the next-gen flagship SUV in the shape of the Infiniti QX Monograph concept, which previews its next-generation Infiniti QX80 cousin.

Inside, there are large screens, upgraded finishes, and the “latest” driver-assist and convenience technology.

The new-generation Armada will reportedly go on sale in mid-2024. Prototypes have recently been spied testing in the Middle East.
