Lotus Emeya coming to provide the Porsche Taycan complications in Australia

Lotus has unveiled its first four-door grand tourer, which will form as the flagship model in its electric vehicle (EV) lineup. It’s also confirmed to be coming to Australia.

Production of the Lotus Emeya electric four-door grand tourer is slated to commence in 2024, ahead of a confirmed Australian launch sometime during 2025.

The Emeya will be the British sports carmaker’s second EV on sale locally, following the Eletre SUV that’s now confirmed to be arriving in the second quarter of 2024.

Lotus claims the Emeya is one of the fastest electric grand tourers in the world, with a claimed 0-100km/h sprint in 2.78 seconds. For context, the Porsche Taycan Turbo S can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 2.8 seconds.

The Lotus Emeya in top-specification form is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup producing system outputs of up to 675kW of power and 985Nm of torque. There’s a two-speed transmission and a top speed of 256km/h.

These dual electric motors are fed by a 102kWh battery pack. Lotus hasn’t disclosed a claimed range figure at this time, though it says it will be “broadly similar” to the Eletre.

When plugged into a 350kW DC fast-charger, the Emeya is claimed to be able to add up to 150km of range in just five minutes of charging. It also has the capability to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes.

On the outside the Emeya has a range of “advanced and active aerodynamic elements”. These include an active front grille, rear diffuser and rear spoiler.

The electric four-door grand tourer also has an electronically controlled air suspension system, featuring onboard sensors that monitor the road 1000 times a second and automatically adjust the suspension.

Inside the Emeya’s interior looks very similar to the Eletre electric SUV. There’s a range of PVD aluminium, Alcantara, Ultrafabric PU and Nappa leather finishes.

The Emeya has a KEF Uni-Q surround sound system with Dolby Atmos. There’s also an integrated road noise cancellation system generates “anti-phase acoustic signals”.

More information about the Lotus Emeya including pricing will be announced at a later date.
