BMW teases X2 and iX2 coupe SUVs forward of imminent reveal

BMW will reveal its new-generation X2, as well as its new electric iX2 sibling, on Wednesday, 11 October.

The German carmaker posted a video of the electric iX2 on its Instagram which shows its headlights, featuring vertical LED daytime running lights and a blue accent to signify it’s an electric model.

The X2 and iX2 also feature an illuminated front grille similar to that of the new XM.

The new tail lights have a dual C-shaped light signature with a clear housing.

The X2 will continue to offer a sporty, combustion-powered M35i flagship, which has previously been snapped with a lower ride height, quad exhaust pipes and large cross-drilled brake discs.

A teaser of the new M Performance model shows a five-spoke wheel design, M badging, dual exhaust outlets, and unique rear lighting.

BMW says the new X2 range will feature new ConnectedDrive updates including in-car gaming, video and audio streaming. It could use iDrive 9, which was expected to debut in the related iX1 that instead launched with iDrive 8.

Based on previous spy photos we know the X2 will have BMW’s Curved Display featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system in one housing.

Earlier this month, BMW shared a sneak peek of the compact SUV for Fortnite game users to customise.

BMW previously teased its X2 in late September, showing off its side profile and front fascia. The vehicle is expected to be larger than its predecessor.

The brand has yet to reveal any details of powertrains it plans to offer but it’s expected BMW will continue to offer a range of petrol and diesel powertrains. Australia only receives petrol variants of the current model.

It’s expected the iX2 will feature the same powertrain as the iX1 xDrive30e, which it’ll be produced alongside in Regensburg, Germany.

The electric SUV has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system making a combined 230kW and 494Nm, good for a claimed 100km/h sprint time of 5.6 seconds and a range of between 413 and 438km on a single charge.

With the iX1 and iX2, BMW will have direct rivals for the Audi Q4 e-tron, which comes in regular SUV and coupe SUV (“Sportback”) body styles.
