A Dialog with Music Star Maisy Kay

Maisy Kay is a name that shines daily in the music industry. This singer, songwriter, and designer is well known for captivating audiences with her charming voice and emotional lyrics. Her unique perspective on love and relationships has attracted millions of fans and numerous artists who have felt drowned in creating wonderful collaborations that have turned into massive hits.

Recently, Maisy released her latest single, “Love Is A God.” The sweet and catchy song reflects the divine nature of love and her relationship with it as “a spiritual experience, a large driving force that gives (her) purpose in life.” The track is an introduction to her upcoming EP, “Wonderlust: The Dusk”, to be released this Fall. Besides her new projects, Maisy Kay has also been pretty busy supporting Tori Kelly on her Tour “Purple Skies World” during this Summer/Fall season,

In our exclusive interview with Maisy she talks about her relationship with popularity and fans, the way she balances her multiple responsibilities, and especially the significance of her recent single “Love Is A God,” and the amazing things she’s currently working on.

I’d like to start by saying that it is surprising to see how your songs have been reproduced over and over again, obtaining millions of streams and counting. How does it feel for you to connect with so many people?

It has been both surprising and heartwarming. I write about my real-life experiences, so it’s wonderful to see so many people all over the world connect to it in some way.

You are a wonderful singer and an outstanding composer, but you are also the designer behind all the products in your web store, Maisy Kay. How do you balance all your creative roles?

I work with a wonderful team that keeps me up to speed and on schedule. I’m always bursting with ideas, so we have a lot of team calls and group chats to go over different elements of the project.

You mentioned designing all your EP covers. How does your visual aesthetic tie into your music?

I think visual aesthetics is another way I can play into the whimsical fantasy universe I’m trying to create. When you listen to my music, you don’t necessarily think “forest fairy”, so the visuals for me are a way to lean into that fictional element.

You recently released “Love Is A God” which you described as a spiritual experience and a driving force. Can you elaborate on how you arrived at this title and what it means to you personally.

Love is something that gives me purpose in life. In that way, it is like a sort of God or deity. Powerful and all-encompassing. The feelings I was experiencing were so powerful that it felt like the closest way to explaining to them that I could think of.

Pretty soon you will be releasing a new EP, “Wonderlust: The Dusk.” How does “Love Is a God” fit into its overall theme?

It explores the deeper parts of a relationship. We are no longer in the honeymoon phase, we are now experiencing something even more profound.

Can you give us a sneak peek into “Wonderlust: The Dusk”? What can fans expect in terms of sound and themes?

Part 2 is a continuation of the story in Part 1, and a deeper look into what makes those great loves so special. It also has more edge and grit than Part 1, and there are nods to the darker production that was on some of my older records.

Earlier this year you released your EP “Wonderlust: The Dawn,” and pretty soon “Wonderlust: The Dusk” will be out. How do these two EPs connect, and what can fans expect from this new chapter in your music?

Wonderlust is a deep dive into love and romance, and the different parts and stages of it. It’s a look into a diary of sorts, and it ranges from slower, softer records, to darker upbeat tracks.

Besides releasing your new EP, we’ll have the chance to see you on stage as you take part in Tori Kelly’s Purple Skies World Tour. What are you most excited about?

I cannot wait to meet my fans—the people who came to my show last year, the people who will see me live for the first time—and hopefully, I’ll get to even make new fans on the tour itself! The fans and their support mean the world to me, and I love getting to connect with them as much as I can.
