Natural Selection Proving Grounds has chosen New Zealand’s South Island as its next location for one of the world’s most recognized freeride mountain biking competitions.
This event will showcase the world’s top athletes on the picturesque Mount Dewar, just 10 minutes from Queenstown’s center, from February 10 to 17, 2024. The latest Proving Grounds will feature 32 of the world’s top riders pulling sweet stunts across the country’s diverse and beautiful terrain.
Riders like Reed Boggs, Casey Brown, Robin Goomes, Brett Rheeder, and Carson Storch faced a tough decision among the Southern Lakes region’s three ideal locations, according to a press release. They deliberated between the dynamic natural terrain above Queenstown and a venue accessible to the public in Wānaka, a resort on the island.
Ultimately, the riders chose this location to propel freeriding’s future, the release said. Storch said he’s excited for the diverse terrain and vibrant riding scene on New Zealand’s South Island.
“Proving Grounds NZ will be something fresh for freeride MTB. I’m excited to be a competitor, but also can’t wait to see some local talent getting into this event, because some of the most insane underrated riders are thriving in the Queenstown scene,” Storch said in the release. “It’s going to be a hell of a time!”
