Seven months after his successful debut, he expanded his culinary empire by launching Canalha Comporta, a dynamic new venture aimed at delivering the same message as in Lisbon but featuring local products that embrace the entire Alentejo region.

The first thing you see when you enter – fish and seafood / The menu
Upon entering the restaurant, we were immediately greeted with warmth and hospitality. After a brief conversation with Chef João Rodrigues, the lovely Carina welcomed us, making us feel right at home. The explanation of the day’s fresh fish and ingredients set the tone for our experience, emphasizing the focus of this establishment: the freshest ingredients sourced from local producers.
The ambiance was enhanced by a fantastic selection of Portuguese music, enveloping us in a world of nostalgic sounds that reminded us of home. The playlist was filled with familiar Portuguese tunes, evoking memories and creating a comforting atmosphere. The food complemented this feeling, with dishes that felt like they were lovingly prepared by our “grandmother”.
Chef João’s work was nothing short of phenomenal. His vision was communicated through the dishes, making it easy to feel like we were part of something greater than just a restaurant visit.

The entire menu was spectacular, making it difficult to choose. However, Chef João sent us dishes that he felt best represented the restaurant’s essence, and let me tell you: it was phenomenal!
We began our meal with a fantastic local chorizo, paired with homemade sourdough bread, perfect for dipping in local olive oil—simply mouthwatering. Among the appetizers, the codfish cakes were outstanding!
It’s hard to pick a highlight from the meal, but dishes like the tomato cream soup, creamy coriander rice with Alistrados/ Shrimp (a chef’s special not on the menu), and the dessert were unforgettable. The entire experience was a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation, leaving us eager to return for more. Order the squid, wrapped in sheep’s butter, it’s one of the dishes you won’t regret trying!
