Air Canada in May 2025 will begin to offer free Wi-Fi for North American flights, the carrier announced Thursday. Long-haul international routes are to follow in 2026.
The “streaming-quality Wi-Fi,” sponsored by Bell, will be available to Aeroplan loyalty members on Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft for Air Canada mainline, Rouge and Express aircraft. It also will be available on Air Canada Express flights on Bombardier Q400 aircraft from Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport to Montreal and Ottawa, according to the carrier.
More than 85 percent of aircraft will be connected “from day one, with the remaining installations being a priority throughout 2025,” according to Air Canada. Bell currently offers free Wi-Fi texting for Aeroplan members. For non-Aeroplan members, Wi-Fi will be available for purchase “at a reduced flat fee.”
Air Canada is the latest North American carrier to bring free Wi-Fi to its flights. Delta Air Lines began offering free Wi-Fi in February 2023. United Airlines announced in September that it would begin to introduce the free service in 2025.
