Air France-KLM, Etihad Plan Additional Collaboration

Air France-KLM and Etihad Airways have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand their existing partnership, including a broader codeshare and interline agreement as well as possible terminal collocation and loyalty program reciprocity, the carriers announced Thursday.

An expansion of the partnership would require regulatory approvals, according to the carriers.

The carriers in a statement said they “contemplate expanding their codeshare and interline agreements,” and on Thursday have made 40 destinations throughout Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa available for booking as of today. The carriers first signed a codeshare deal in 2012

Additionally, the carriers also proposed the possibility of allowing travelers to earn and redeem miles on the loyalty programs of each Air France, KLM and Etihad. The carriers also cited the possibility of airport lounge reciprocity and terminal collocation, without further detail.

Air France in July announced it would begin on Oct. 29 direct daily service between Abu Dhabi International Airport and Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport.
