Air India has signed letters of intent with Boeing and Airbus to acquire a total of 470 widebody and single-aisle aircraft, the carrier announced Tuesday. The deal is the single largest order by an airline, according to Reuters.
The order includes from Boeing 20 787 and 10 777-9 widebody aircraft and 190 737 Max narrowbody planes. The Airbus order includes 40 A350 widebodies, and 210 A320-321 Neo narrowbodies. The first of the aircraft will enter service in late 2023, according to Air India, with the bulk to arrive from mid-2025 onward.
In addition, the carrier on Feb. 14 resumed nonstop service between Mumbai and New York’s JFK. The service had been suspended since early 2019, according to Air India. The flight will operate daily with Boeing 777-200LR aircraft.
