Air India Group has completed the merger of Air India and Vistara, which was announced in November 2022, Air India announced Tuesday. The closing follows the company’s Oct. 1 merger of low-cost airlines Air India Express and AIX Connect, formerly Air Asia India.
Post-mergers, Air India Group now operates a combined fleet of 300 aircraft covering 55 domestic and 48 international destinations, according to the company. The consolidation of the four Tata-owned airlines into one group operating one full-service and one low-cost airline is part of the company’s “ongoing, five-year transformation program.”
The merger included the addition of 6,000 Vistara staff and migration of 4.5 million Club Vistara frequent-flyer accounts into Air India’s recently redesigned loyalty program Maharaja Club.
Further, with the merger complete, Singapore Airlines, which had held a 49 percent share in Vistara, is now a 25.1 percent shareholder in Air India Group.
