Alaska, Hawaiian Lengthen DOJ Assessment Interval

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have agreed with the U.S. Department of Justice to extend their proposed merger’s review period to Aug. 15, 2024, from the initial scheduled date of Aug. 5, the carriers announced Tuesday. The $1.9 billion deal, announced in December 2023, has been under antitrust scrutiny from the DOJ.

Alaska CEO Ben Minicucci this month during the carrier’s second-quarter earnings call noted that Alaska had provided the DOJ with information from its second request, and “we are maintaining close and transparent communication with the DOJ as they finalize their review process.”
