AllOutdoor Review – Leupold BX-4 Range HD TBR/W 10x42mm Binoculars

Leupold, a renowned name in the world of optics, has a rich history that spans over a century. Established in 1907 by German immigrant Markus Friedrich “Fred” Leupold and his brother-in-law, Adam Voelpel, in Beaverton, Oregon, the company initially focused on repairing survey equipment. However, their expertise soon expanded into crafting precision optics, and by the 1940s, Leupold became a key contributor to the U.S. war effort by producing rifle scopes for the military. Over the years, Leupold has continued to innovate, setting industry standards for optical performance and durability. Today, the company holds its quality and reliability in high regards, with a diverse range of products catering to hunters, sports shooters, and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide. Today, we will be looking over their newest set of binoculars, the Leupold BX-4 Range HD Rangefinding Binoculars

Leupold Coverage on AllOutdoor

The Leupold BX-4 RANGE HD TBR/W Binoculars were sent to me by Leupold for this review and while I am allowed to keep them indefinitely, this will not change my current or future opinion on any Leupold products. Leupold has not been allowed to preview this review prior to its publication. While I have not had a chance to get out on any actual hunts for testing of these Binoculars in the 4 months of owning them, I have done a lot of walking around the woods looking for birds here in Alabama. I may have also spied on a few of my neighbors from time to time for testing purposes only.

Not slippery When Wet

If you have read any of my other reviews in Leupold products you probably already know that these are pretty boring reviews. Typically most Leupold products work as advertised and don’t come with any crap and this makes the test and evaluation process very easy. Just like their scopes, these binoculars are built to last through your wildest adventures and continue to provide consistent performance to its end user. The BX-4 RANGE HD TBR/W Binoculars are built to withstand torrential downpours and not fog up on you. I’m happy to report in my testing I found this to be an accurate claim. I left these binos out in a rainstorm for an entire afternoon to find that they still worked perfectly.

The entire body of the binos is covered in grippy and textured rubber to give you maximum traction while holding them up to your eyes. Even the buttons and dials are covered with this material also lending to the overall great water resistance. This is a really nice feature of these binos but this is also to be expected at this price point. They also feel very premium on the hand coming in at 39oz with a significant heft. All of the dials have a heavy but smooth resistance to them contributing to the overall premium feel.

Performance – Leupold BX-4 Range HD TBR/W 10x42mm Binoculars

The BX-4 Range HD binoculars by are remarkable not only for their high-quality optics but also for their advanced rangefinding and ballistic features in a compact design. Equipped with Leupold’s DNA rangefinding engine, these binoculars can measure distances to reflective objects up to 2,600 yards and trees up to 1,600 yards. The range readout inside the binos is also very easy to read and bright enough for sunny days. I found the range to be very accurate and fast when ranging targets at the shooting range (how many times can I use “range in the same sentence?)

As the name implies Leupold’s True Ballistic Range/Wind (TBR/W) technology. This advanced system adjusts for shot distance, angle, and wind, using your rifle’s specific ballistic profile to provide precise shoot-to-distance calculations. With just a button press, you can get the information needed for a precision shot. I really can’t tell you how important and powerful this feature is when it comes to long-range shooting. I can imagine while hunting this would also become basically invaluable.

The TBR/W technology also offers outputs in MOA, MIL, and drop holds for quick turret adjustments, streamlining the process of ranging, dialing, and shooting without needing to reference your dope chart. The BX-4 Range HD binoculars also feature a BOW mode, which applies the same TBR technology but is adapted for the ballistics of an arrow. This makes the binoculars an excellent choice for both rifle and bow hunters.

Think I spotted a Buzzard

Leupold has thoughtfully included programmable buttons on top of both barrels of the BX-4 Range HD binoculars, catering to both right- and left-handed users. I was born right-handed but its nice to see that Leupold is thinking about all of the “wrong” handed people out there. One tap activates the bright red OLED display, and a second tap provides the range.

Wrap Up – Leupold BX-4 Range HD TBR/W 10x42mm Binoculars

The BX-4 Range HD binoculars are priced at an MSRP of $1,600. Considering the exceptional optical quality and advanced rangefinding features, I anticipated a higher price. These binos are on the upper end of the spectrum when it comes to price when compared to comparable offerings from VORTEX and Steiner but neither of those companies produce their optics in America to my knowledge. You can often find them for on sale for around $1200. These binos also come with some accessories out of the box including extra caps, a harness and not forgotten, a battery. Combined with Leupold’s reputation for manufacturing some of the most durable and reliable optics, the BX-4 Range HD binoculars are an outstanding investment for any serious hunters and long-range shooters. To date, this is the nicest set of Binoculars I own.
