A Word from MKC Tactical on the Battle Goat Knife

The MKC Tactical Battle Goat shares a lot of attributes and traits from the other tactical knives that Montana Knife Company is currently putting out, but the Battle Goat is still its own unique beast. For a more thorough and complete explanation, MKC Tactical shares their thoughts via their press release statement below as well as their YouTube video covering this new knife.

The Battle Goat is the ideal blending of combat-ready features with everyday utility. Designed for those who want a versatile knife that can handle both combat situations and common tasks, the Battle Goat sits in the sweet spot between a dedicated fighting blade and an EDC workhorse.

With its comfortable grip, durable construction, and versatile design, it’s the knife you’ll reach for whether you’re gearing up for a mission or tackling your day-to-day challenges.

The Finer Details – MKC Tactical Battle Goat Knife

What puts Montana Knife Company and MKC Tactical blades over the top from their competitors is not an individual characteristic; rather, it is a host of reasons. From their insanely sharp edges that retain over time to an ultra-fine point that is surgical in nature, the MKC Tactical Battle Goat wins because of all of its finer details.

  • Razor Sharp Trailing Point Blade in Ultra-Tough Magnacut Steel: This premium steel offers the perfect balance of edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance, making it ideal for both tactical and everyday use. At 0.120″ thick, the blade is robust enough for hard use while maintaining a fine, surgical tip for precision tasks. Learn more about MAGNACUT Stainless Steel from the creator, Larrin Thomas.
  • Featuring a thicker grip than its Wargoat cousin, the Battle Goat’s handle is designed for extended use: While the Wargoat’s handle is primarily designed for reverse-grip, the Battle Goat’s thicker, more ergonomic handle offers superior comfort in traditional grips. The G-10 scales are milled with a linear angle texture, providing excellent grip in all conditions without being abrasive. This bulletproof material can withstand any abuse without cracking or breaking, won’t absorb blood or moisture, and maintains a secure hold even when wet or muddy.

  • Designed with key tactical features without sacrificing everyday utility: The Battle Goat’s has a reverse-swept endpoint that facilitates quick deployment, while the handle shape allows for both hammer and saber grips. The full tang construction ensures durability, making this knife equally capable in hand-to-hand combat or for day-to-day use.
  • Deep Finger Choil for Complete Edge Control: Whether delicately slicing thin materials or unleashing full-force blows, the Battle Goat’s deep finger choil lets you choke up for incredible edge control. This protective choil helps prevent fingers from sliding onto the razor-sharp cutting edge during intense engagement.

What’s in the Box? MKC Tactical Battle Goat Knife

One of the most common questions I get asked face-to-face when a friend knows I’m reviewing a new product is: “what’s in the box?” My answer can guide them in knowing if they need to purchase extra accessories to get a product off-the-ground-and-running, or if it is good to go straight out-of-the-box. One important piece you get with this knife is a custom-molded Kydex sheath which provides secure, durable carry of the Battle Goat in even the most demanding scenarios. The sheath can be worn vertically or horizontally and offers multi-position retention adjustments to dial in the perfect draw every time. The rest of the contents in the box with your MKC Tactical Battle Goat purchase are as follows:

  • MKC Tactical Battle Goat Knife
  • Exclusive MKC Open-Carry Sheath 2.0
  • Information Card (Includes Specs and Dimensions)
  • Made in the USA Certification Card (Signed by employee who Inspected & Packaged the Knife)
  • Knife Care & Use Card (Do’s and Don’ts)
  • MKC Tactical Sticker

Field Use – MKC Tactical Battle Goat Knife

So, how did the MKC Tactical Battle Goat knife in its Coyote Brown/Black colorway perform out in the field?… This knife definitely has unique lines and a style to it. It reminds me of a fish fillet knife that somebody built to be bulletproof. The long and slender 3.5″ blade affords you a lot of cutting surface, and the sharpness of MKC Tactical is just as good as their Montana Knife Company brethren.

Something else that I learned to appreciate on this knife is the deep finger choil. This ensures you can get a full grip on the knife while still having your fingers protected and maintaining strong command of the blade.

Next, I love the subtle yet nicely textured jimping on the back of the full tang blade. Then, if you’re really going to town cutting or carving into something, you have that extra grip of control and dexterity working with the knife.

This jimping extends to the butt end of the knife as well. So, if you need to stab or pummel into something – again – you have that extra control, dexterity, and a strong proprioceptive index while you are working with a sharp blade. You can also see in close-ups the tightly fabricated G10 grip panels that are not only an attractive compliment to this blade, but also aid in handling as well.

Finally, I really appreciate the Exclusive MKC Open-Carry Sheath 2.0 that comes with this knife. It is something that can easily be clipped to a backpack, plate carrier, or chest rig for daily use. Or, you could simply attach it to your pocket or waistline for an even more discreet way of carrying. Functional and safe as it houses the razor sharp blade until you deem it necessary to deploy it. A nice upgrade for this package.

Departing Thoughts

So, what are my final thoughts on the MKC Tactical Battle Goat knife in its Coyote Brown/Black colorway as we have reviewed it here today?… Overall, this is another win from MKC Tactical. The only constructive criticism that I have – which is more of a preference and opinion than a negative statement – is that the MKC Tactical Battle Goat is a slender tactical knife. Perfect for precise, surgical work. If you want something beefier and more robust, reach for their TF24. If this knife looks like the perfect size for what you may need it for, you’ll love. The $325 asking price is quite fair for the quality that is distilled in this knife.

In closing, I want to say thank you to Montana Knife Company and MKC Tactical for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their Montana Knife Company MKC Tactical Battle Goat knife in a Coyote Brown/Black colorway. That is greatly appreciated. Also, we would like to know what all of you guys and gals think? Do you believe that the Montana Knife Company MKC Tactical Battle Goat knife in a Coyote Brown/Black colorway is something worth spending your money on? Would you take one with you hunting? Carry it for work? Potentially deploy it for EDC (everyday carry)?
