American Airlines and JetBlue have taken the next steps to wind down their Northeast Alliance, the carriers announced Friday. The dismantling comes after JetBlue last week announced it would not appeal the May 19 ruling by the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts requiring the agreement to end.
Beginning July 21, customers no longer will be able to book new codeshare tickets on American and JetBlue flights. For those with travel already booked, TrueBlue or AAdvantage loyalty account information will need to be added to the booking by July 20 in order to earn miles, points, tiles and reciprocal perks, according to the carriers.
In addition, AAdvantage members can use their AAdvantage miles to book and ticket an award itinerary on JetBlue through July 20, according to the carrier.
Each carrier noted they would take additional actions in the coming months to wind down the NEA.
