Amex GBT Unveils Emissions-Based mostly Pricing

American Express Global Business Travel has introduced an emissions-based carbon pricing option, according to the travel management company.

The pricing tool lets clients apply a carbon fee to their travel based upon their selected carbon methodology rather than a flat fee. Travelers can see the fees as they shop, and the fees also can appear on their invoices, which will keep them informed of their carbon impact, according to the TMC

“Carbon pricing is a proven mechanism that can help companies make progress towards their sustainability objectives,” Amex GBT SVP of product and engineering John Sturino said in a statement. “Our innovative software can now help customers place a price on carbon and direct investment toward lower-carbon solutions, empowering them to make more informed decisions and address their carbon footprint.”

The carbon fees can go toward a company’s fund for sustainability initiatives, including research and development, sustainable aviation fuel and electric vehicles, according to Amex GBT. Pharmaceutical and healthcare company Sanofi is among the clients using the emissions-based fees, which “enable us to combine economics, sustainability and technology to strengthen our business travel program and boost funding to invest in decarbonization initiatives such as SAF,” according to Sanofi global procurement category head Lucian Alexandru.
