Each and every year, Oprah bestows upon us her list of favorite things just in time for the holidays—and every year, we feel heavily inspired to pull out our wallet and shop accordingly. As we eagerly anticipate this year’s drop (which goes live in November), we’re looking back at one of her 2021 picks: the APL Lusso Slides. The quilted slip-on shoes are beloved for their chic appearance and cloud-like cushioning. Those two characteristics apply to every silhouette that APL offers—including the brand’s new TechLoom Dream Sneaker.

All about APL’s TechLoom Dream sneaker

Meant for both walking and running, the APL TechLoom Dream is an ultra lightweight knit sneaker showcasing a sleek, minimalist silhouette with sole-cradling cushioning. This new APL silhouette is the first to debut the brand’s TechLoom Dream Heavenly Ride midsole, which has been years in the making. What sets it apart is its surprisingly-effective shock absorption, which makes walking in these shoes feel like, well, nothing short of a dream.

The uppers of the shoe are crafted with APL’s signature TechLoom knit, which is renowned for its seamless, supportive design. Many people find APLs to be some of, if not the most comfortable sneakers on the market for this exact reason. After all, without seams, there’s less friction on the foot, making blisters less of a concern.

However, in my personal experience with many APL shoes, including the TechLoom Dream, the shoes do have a break-in period (which I believe is due to the narrow fit), and it’s still possible to get blisters while your feet get accustomed to the knit and ultimately stretch it out to fit your foot’s unique shape and size. For me, it typically only takes a few wears of a mile or more to mold the uppers to my liking. And now that my TechLoom Dreams are adequately broken in, I must say: I find myself reaching for them regularly.

There are a few things that keep me doing so. For starters, as someone with super sensitive, blister-prone feet, I high-key appreciate the padded heels. I also love the 8mm drop of the shoe, which makes my feet feel sturdy, cradled, and also ready to pounce. Another highlight? These knit sneakers are machine-washable. Simply spot treat them with the detergent of your liking and toss them in the wash. Opt for cold water and the fastest wash cycle, then let them air dry.

Are the APL TechLoom Dream sneakers worth it?

If you’re looking for a chic, versatile sneaker that matches a lot of your wardrobe, the APL TechLoom Dream sneakers are worth considering. They’re comfortable, convenient (the laces are almost just for show since the upper has a super supportive sock-like fit, so you can easily slip them on and off without having to unlace), and easy to care for—all things we wish for in every pair of sneakers we try.

It’s clear the APL TechLoom Dream sneakers have the branding that’s become synonymous with A-listers and top influencer status alike. Jennifer Garner, Lady Gaga, Chrissy Teigen, Shay Mitchell, and Sofia Richie Grainge are just a few stars who have stocked their closets with the coveted footwear. And we totally get why.
