Apple Crumb Cake Recipe: How you can Make a Moist and Spicy Fall Dessert

The fall season is the perfect time to take advantage of all the wonderful varieties and best prices for apples when baking. This recipe for apple filled crumb cake is bursting with fresh apples and cinnamon that is layered between tender yellow cake before topping with a sugar crumb mixture.

Though this apple cake recipe is a bit more work than usual, but the extra effort is worth it when you dig into this moist and delicate cake oozing with spices and apples. The crumb topping has brown sugar, flour, butter, and chopped nuts if you have them on hand. This makes a nice contrast with the chewier texture to the fine grain of this cake and those sweet apples.

Apple Crumb Cake, Uncut

I used to have an apple tree and made this cake quite often before it had to be cut down due to disease. In fact, I made more apple recipes than you can imagine from that wonderful tree. Whether you are fortunate enough to have an apple tree or not, this crumb cake with apples is one recipe that is a treasure. It will bring you compliments like I received every time that I served it to family and friends.

The next time that you feel in the mood to bake and want to peel apples, I hope that you’ll print out my apple cake recipe. Seriously, you will be so glad you did once you sit down to eat a piece. Please share it with family and friends.

Apple Crumb Cake, Piece

Apple Crumb Cake Recipe

For the Apple Filling:

5 cups of apples, peeled, cored and sliced into small pieces
½ cups of sugar
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 tablespoon of butter
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
4 tablespoons of flour

For the Cake Batter:

1 ½ cups of flour
3/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of baking powder, leveled
3/4 teaspoon of salt
1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
1/3 cup of canola oil
1/3 cup of milk
2 large unbeaten eggs
1 teaspoon of vanilla

Crumb Topping:

3/4 cup of firmly packed brown sugar (light or dark)
½ cups of sifted flour
1/4 cup of butter
½ cups of chopped walnuts (optional)

Combine the chopped apple pieces, the half cup of sugar, cinnamon, butter, lemon juice, and flour first before placing in a microwave safe container with a lid.

Microwave the apple mixture for about eight minutes or so, depending on how powerful your microwave is, until the apples are tender.

While the apples are cooking, sift together cake batter ingredients with the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cloves before adding the eggs and vanilla in a large mixing bowl.

Cream the cake batter ingredients with your electric mixture on a low speed for about two minutes.

Get a cake pan about 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan and grease it generously before sifting some flour lightly over that pan.

Now spread half of the cake batter at the bottom of the baking dish.

Top with half the apple mixture next.

Cover the apples now with the rest of the cake batter.

Now prepare the crumb topping just by rubbing the ingredients together to form somewhat coarse crumbs.

Sprinkle that crumb topping over the last layer of apples as evenly as you can.

Bake in a 350-degree oven for about 35-40 minutes, depending on how your oven is regulated.

Test with a cake tester, toothpick or slender knife to see if anything sticks will determine doneness.

ENJOY!
