Are we lastly getting a successor to the gorgeous Alfa Romeo 8C?

Alfa Romeo has confirmed an August 30 reveal for an upcoming ‘specialty’ model allegedly inspired by the 1960s T33 Stradale.

It’ll be unveiled at Alfa’s museum in Arese, Italy.

The teaser poster doesn’t give anything away, only showing sporty-looking vents and a classic Alfa red exterior finish.

The tagline reads ‘Il corragio di sognare’, translating to ‘dare to dream’ or ‘the courage of dreaming’, suggesting a sports car model to be positioned above Alfa Romeo’s current premium offering.

To be revealed ahead of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, the Milan-based brand may draw parallels between the sports car and its performance engineering developments fostered in the Alfa Romeo Stake Formula 1 team.

Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato made the announcement while revealing the facelifted Giulia and Stelvio models in China, telling attendees “This project is a dream come true, inspired by a daring team that wanted to achieve something unique.”

Making the announcement in China was “not a coincidence”, indicating Alfa Romeo’s intentions to allocate effort and resources to tap into the Chinese market with a target of 40 per cent of sales outside Europe.

According to Autocar, Mr Imparato confirmed orders for the unnamed supercar began in February.

“It will be sold out before I unveil the car”, he said.

Rumours suggest the model will be named the ‘6C’ after a previous video teaser posted to Alfa Romeo’s Instagram appeared to show the car’s rear light cluster in a ‘6C’ emblem.

The 6C label also suggests the model will adopt the twin-turbo 2.9-litre V6 engine that powers the Giulia Quadrifoglio and Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

As no details have yet been released, it is unclear if the sportscar will receive both internal combustion and electric powertrain options. Alfa Romeo plans to become an EV-only brand by 2027.

Mr Imparato said the model will “contribute to the DNA” of the brand and sit “beside the 8C in the museum of Arese.”

Autocar also reports that Mr Imparato’s description of the model potentially suggests “a hypercar with a price could run into the hundreds of thousands.”

Alfa Romeo’s current lineup consists of the mid-sized Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV, along with the smaller Tonale SUV.

A smaller SUV to sit below Tonale is also expected to join the Alfa Romeo lineup in 2024.

Alfa Romeo’s first standalone electric model is due to arrive in 2025, with new cars to follow in 2026 and 2027 as per the brand’s deal with parent company Stellantis.

Given the potential volumes on offer, electric replacements for the Tonale and Stelvio are guaranteed.

Alfa Romeo has also confirmed the reborn GTV coupe could become a reality in 2026.
