Australian sports activities automotive model Elfin takes subsequent step on street to return


Is this the coolest time capsule ever?

Iconic Australian race car turned road car manufacturer Elfin Sports Cars is currently on the path to being revived with the containers holding all the company’s assets being opened up for the first time in over a decade.

Melbourne-based classic and collectable car dealer Young Timers Garage (YTG), which purchased the company from the Walkinshaw Group earlier this year, has begun taking stock of items included in the shipping containers, as well as assessing how many potential cars can be made from the remaining parts.

The dealer claims upon “brief inspection” there appears to be enough parts to assemble “multiple” Type 5 open wheelers.

YTG says it’s in communications with “several” of the original parts suppliers to obtain any missing components for the cars.

The dealer says it’s also possible parts of spare components may be sold to current Elfin owners who are seeking rare and hard-to-find parts.

YTG owner Shaun Baker said the dealer is “still in the early stages” of assessing the Elfin Sports Cars assets, though it’s hopeful it will be able to “resume production of Elfin cars in the future”.

“We know that there are a lot of Elfin enthusiasts out there who are eager to see the brand return,” said Mr Baker.

“We are committed to doing everything we can to make that happen.”

Elfin dates back to 1959, when it was originally founded by Garrie Cooper as an Australian motorsports manufacturer.

The Australian firm has a collection of 29 driver’s championships in numerous categories, with entires in Formula 1, Formula 2 and Formula 3, as well as Formula Ford and Group A racing.

The brand was reborn in 2006 and initially produced a pair of V8-powered sports cars – the MS8 Streamliner and MS8 Clubliner, both featuring a version of the 5.7-litre Gen III V8 out of the VZ-series Holden Commodore.

The entry-level, four-cylinder turbo-powered Type 5 was the last vehicle the company produced.

At this stage it’s unclear if YTG plans to develop new Elfin model, or if it will be restarting production of the brand’s trio of most recent models.
