The Polestar 2 is up to #4 in Norway in August.
New car sales in Norway disappoint in August at -10.4% to 11,083 units, meaning the year-to-date volume is now off -3.3% to 85,155. BEV sales edge up just 0.1% year-on-year to 9,250 and 83.5% share and up 3.1% year-to-date to 70,675 and 83% share. PHEVs sink -48.1% to 724 for the month and -30.3% year-to-date to 6,025 while HEVs crumble -29.8% to 675 in August but remain up YTD at +7.7% to 5,242. This means electrified vehicles hold 96.1% of the Norwegian market this month with 10,649 sales and 96.2% year-to-date at 81,942. Petrol is at 1.1% share this month and 1.3% year-to-date and diesel is at 2.8% and 2.5%.
Tesla (+100.7%) majestically doubles its sales year-on-year to account for 15.4% of all sales for the month, rallying back up 11 spots on July. The American carmaker holds a 22% share year-to-date. Toyota (-3.1%) remains in second place, overtaking Volkswagen (-50.8%) in deep trouble. Skoda (-0.9%) is almost stable at #4 ahead of a struggling BMW (-30.3%). Volvo (+112.7%) compensates for a particularly weak year-ago result but still only holds 5.1% share vs. 6.6% so far this year. Polestar (+198%) hits its highest ranking since May 2022 at #9 and 4% share vs. #16 and 1.3% year-to-date. Ford (+54.2%) and Nissan (+44.1%) also ignore the depleted market in the remainder of the Top 10.
As for the models ranking, no surprise on top: the Tesla Model Y (+324.6%) is imperial with 13.1% share, however still below the gargantuan 20.1% it holds year-to-date. The VW ID.4 (-52%) cements its 2nd place despite a drastic fall (it held 12% of the market in August 2022), with the Skoda Enyaq (-3%) only 8 units below. The Polestar 2 (+210.5%) is up to #4 vs. #21 YTD while the Toyota bZ4X ensures the Top 5 models are all BEVs. The Volvo XC40 (+1196.7%!) surges year-on-year but drops one spot on July to #6, distancing the Ford Mustang Mach-E (+114.4%) and Nissan Ariya (+653.5%) in equally great shape.
