I bought my first high-quality down sleeping bag in the late 1990s while working as a salesperson at Midwest Mountaineering in Minneapolis. That sleeping bag, a Marmot Pinnacle with 600-fill down, took me nearly 6 months to save for, even with a substantial discount.
Nearly 30 years since, do I regret the investment? Hell no! That sleeping bag is in my gear cave today, and I still sleep in it dozens of nights a year. At this point, it’s one of the best investments of my life.
The lesson here is that a really good down sleeping bag serves as one of the best investments you’ll ever make in outdoor gear. And accordingly, they are, well, expensive.
So with Black Friday sales rolling around, I scoured the web for some fantastic deals. Get one for a friend you really, really like. Or just grab one for yourself and be comfortable for the next, oh, 40 years.
Black Friday Sleeping Bag Deals
I started out by finding some early deals. Score these if you can, as who knows what will happen with supply chains these days? And check back next week, as I’ll update this story as more deals come online.
Also note that I focused on down sleeping bags here. I highly prefer down sleeping bags because they have the highest warmth-to-weight ratio available.
They also compress better than synthetic sleeping bags and last basically forever. But if you use a bag in persistently wet conditions, or prefer a vegan product for any number of reasons, there are also many deals on synthetic bags now, too.

Rab Mythic Ulta 360 Sleeping Bag (20F Down): 25% Off
The Rab Mythic Ultra is a fabulous sleeping bag. We’ve tested it extensively and love the featherweight design stuffed with incredibly high-quality 900-fill down. It packs down tiny, weighs just 1.53 ounces, and will keep you warm down to about 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
This is one of the more premium sleeping bags you can buy, and it carries a hefty $650 price tag. But wait! Thanks to Black Friday, it’s priced down to $487. Still pricy? Yes, but worth it. Care for it well, and it should still work great in 2063.
Big Agnes Torchlight Sleeping Bag (20F Down): 35% Off
The Big Agnes Torchlight is a perfect sleeping bag for so much of the year. Rated to 20 degrees F, it’s the perfect bag for the mountains from spring through fall. It can stretch into winter use in much of the country.
It weighs in at 2 pounds 12 ounces for a size regular and will be an ideal piece in your backpack for cooler hikes. It uses 600-fill-power down, which is a good value in a brand-name bag. Grab one and be ready for camping for most of the year.
The North Face Inferno Sleeping Bag (-20F Down): 30% Off
Here’s a sleeping bag meant for the icy fangs of winter. Rated to -20 degrees F, The North Face Inferno is a premier sleeping bag. Loaded with 800-fill down, the 100% recycled main body material is coated in aluminized XReflex for higher thermal retention.
But even with this warm goodness, the bag weighs just 3 pounds 1 ounce for a regular length. And it packs down to about twice the size of a Nalgene bottle. For those who will take their winter camping into the cold, frozen backcountry, this is a really strong contender for a good night’s sleep in frigid conditions.
