Boba Milk Tea – A Stunning Mess

This boba milk tea recipe is really the most classic and simple bubble tea. So, if you’ve never tried boba tea before or you’re looking for a simple order (think vanilla latte—simple but good), I recommend trying this. With only four ingredients, this refreshing iced drink is easy to make at home and sure to please!

This drink is sweetened only with sweetened condensed milk. I’ve added my recommendation for the amount in the recipe card below, but feel free to adjust this to your preferences. You could also swap the black tea for jasmine or green, or even a fruity or flavored herbal tea if you want! As with most simple recipes, there are endless ways to customize this to your liking.

Ingredients

  • Boba pearls
  • Black tea – or you could use jasmine or green
  • Milk – dairy or a milk alternative like soy or oat milk
  • Sweetened condensed milk

Directions

First, use this boba pearl recipe to prepare the bubbles, or tapioca pearls that go in this drink.

Brew the tea and allow to cool. Add the tea to the milk and stir to combine.

In a glass, add your boba pearls, ice and then drizzle the sweetened condensed milk along the sides. Alternatively you could also mix it in with the milk tea, but I like to drizzle it along the sides and mix it with my straw and I drink.

Then pour the milk tea over the ice and enjoy chilled.

Tips & Substitutions

  • If you want add a little more flavor, you could sprinkle on a little cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, or cardamom.
  • You will want to use a bubble tea straw for this drink. A standard straw will not be large enough for the boba pearls to pass through.
  • If you want or need to make this dairy free, you can swap the dairy milk for an alternative you prefer and omit the sweetened condensed milk. Add a teaspoon or more of another sweetener like simple syrup or honey.
