The 2025 Can-Am Origin is one of the few electric motorcycles from an established combustion-engine powersports brand. BRP owns Can-Am, and it has been in the powersports game for 80 years. Can-Am didn’t supply all the details and specifics, but here’s what we know so far.
Can-Am Origin Specification Sheet
The most important part of a motorcycle is the engine, and Can-Am mounts a proprietary Rotax E-Power power unit in the Origin. “Rotax” is synonymous with BRP, and it has a proven track record in internal combustion form. Can-Am claims 47 horsepower and a 4.3 0-to-60mph time aboard the Origin. No torque values were provided at the time of writing.
An 8.9kWh battery powers the Rotax E-Power unit, which Can-Am claims results in a 90-mile range. Brand communications also claim this battery has survived scorching heat and deep winter cold.
The Origin boasts liquid cooling for all power-related components, including the engine, battery, inverter, and charger. Can-Am claims this cooling reduces battery degradation over time, extends range, and provides faster charging time. The brand also states the Origin dual-sport motorcycle charges from 20% to 80% in 50 minutes on a Level 2 charger. There is no information yet on the total charge time.
Suspension is also critical for any motorcycle venturing off-road. Here, Can-Am leverages a well-known entity by employing KYB suspension components that deliver 255mm of travel in the front and adjustable rear suspension. No information yet on rear suspension travel, standover height, or ground clearance.
Speculation on the remainder of the driveline can only be made via images supplied by Can-Am. It shows a BMW-esque single-sided swingarm sans chain or drive belt.
The Can-Am Origin has six riding modes — Normal, Sport, ECO, Rain, Off-Road, and Off-Road+ — to help with traction and control on differing terrain and conditions.
No details were provided about braking components, tire specifications, or bike weights. Images do show a massive single front brake rotor.
Notably, the Origin also has a powered reverse mode.
Connectivity
The Can-Am Origin has a large 10.25-inch touchscreen display that connects to Apple CarPlay, easing navigation. It also connects to BRP’s GO! App for expanded features and functions. A 0.7L glove box houses a USB port so your devices can stay charged.
How Do I Get a Can-Am Origin?
Can-Am is placing preorders on its website. The Origin electric dual sport electric motorcycle starts at $14,999. Riders can outfit their Origin with more than 20 compatible Linq Nano tool-free accessories to make the bike their own.
BRP will start production in the fourth quarter of 2024, and Can-Am states that deliveries to dealers will start in early 2025. Can-Am announced the Origin alongside a street version dubbed the Pulse.
