Canada’s Lynx Air provides Boston, San Francisco to rising route map

Canadian budget carrier Lynx Air is expanding its U.S. footprint.

The airline, which began flying in April 2022, will make Boston and San Francisco its newest U.S. destinations. Lynx will serve both cities from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

“Adding Boston and San Francisco to our ever-expanding network is a significant milestone for our airline,” Vijay Bathija, Lynx’s chief commercial officer, said in a statement.

Lynx’s flights from Toronto to Boston will begin March 28, when the airline launches there with a schedule of four flights a week. The flight frequency will increase to six flights a week (daily except Saturdays) on April 22.

Lynx’s Toronto flights from San Francisco begin May 3 with four flights a week. That route will get daily service beginning June 11.

Lynx, which operates under an ultra-low-cost model similar to U.S. carriers Allegiant, Frontier and Spirit, is primarily targeting Canadian travelers looking to travel to the U.S. – though Americans flying to Canada will likely welcome the new service as well.

“We are proud to offer an ultra-affordable link to connect the Toronto area market to both the US east and west coast,” Bathija said in the statement. “Our strategy is to fly to destinations where airfares are historically high, and low-cost options are limited. By offering ultra-affordable fares, we aim to inspire more Canadians to travel to see their favorite people and places.”

Lynx will face significant competition on both routes. Air Canada already flies nonstop between Boston and Toronto Pearson while Porter Airlines – another Canadian rival – flies from Boston to the Toronto-Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ) just outsider the city’s downtown.

In San Francisco, Lynx will go head-to-head with three airlines (Air Canada, Porter and United) on its service to Toronto Pearson.

Lynx’s two latest cities will give it a total of eight U.S. destinations, joining Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Phoenix, Tampa and Fort Myers, Florida.
