Celebration’s over: Last Ford Fiesta can be constructed this week

The final Ford Fiesta will be produced this week.

Having last year confirmed it would cull its long-running city hatchback, Ford will this week end production at its Cologne, Germany plant for good.

Autocar reports the last two Fiestas will live with Ford; one as part of the global heritage fleet at Cologne, and another in the British heritage fleet.

The space freed up by the end of Fiesta production will be used to build the new Explorer small electric SUV.

Across its seven generations and 47 years in production, 22 million Fiesta-branded vehicles have been sold across the world.

While its current innings is coming to an end, we shouldn’t rule out a revival of the nameplate – Ford isn’t averse to reviving historic badges.

The Fiesta died last year in Australia, with the end of the Fiesta ST.

The regular Fiesta range was pulled from our market when the sixth-generation model was replaced in 2019, with only the performance-oriented ST version of the seventh-generation (should that be final-generation?) making it to Australian showrooms.
