Chery Australia appoints new managing director

Chery Australia has appointed a new managing director: Lucas Harris.

Mr Harris began his new role on December 4 and will report directly to Andy Zhang, who remains as the Chery Australia CEO.

He previously held the role of product and after-sales director at Chery Australia, and prior to being at Chery Australia Mr Harris was the Subaru Australia national service operations manager.

With his new position at Chery Australia, Mr Harris will oversee the strategic direction and operations of the company.

He’ll also be driving initiatives to increase sales and market share, introduce new products, as well as strengthen partnerships.

“I look forward to working with the talented team at Chery and building upon the brand’s legacy in the Australian automotive market,” said Mr Harris.

“Together, we will continue to provide customers with exceptional products and services.”

“Lucas’s impressive track record and leadership skills make him the ideal choice to lead Chery into its next phase of growth in the Australian market,” said Mr Zhang.

“We are confident that his expertise will contribute significantly to our ongoing success.”

Chery returned to the Australian new car market with a factory-backed operation earlier this year, and it’s gearing to further expand its model range in 2024.

That will include a new flagship SUV, the Tiggo 8 Pro, as well as more versions of the Omoda 5 including an electric version that will be the brand’s first electric vehicle (EV) in Australia.

The Chinese carmaker currently offers the Omoda 5 small SUV and recently launched the larger Tiggo 7 Pro.
