Chinese brand Jetour overnight has revealed its next off-road concept – which measures larger than a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series – ahead of this week’s Shanghai motor show.
The T-3 concept is built on the Kunlun platform which supports electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs) with both SUV and ute body styles.
Powertrains have yet to be detailed, though Jetour – part of Chery – has previously announced its T product series would be available with four-cylinder and six-cylinder petrol engines, as well as PHEV and EV options.
Chinese media reports a quad-motor all-wheel drive powertrain will be available, with each motor producing 250kW and 400Nm and total system output reaching 969kW. The reported 0-100km/h time is just three seconds.
The extended range electric vehicle will reportedly use an engine to power the battery only when it’s flat, for a total of 1400km of range.
The concept measures 5300mm long, 2000mm wide, 1900mm tall with a 3000mm wheelbase, which is bigger than a LandCrusier 300 Series. In terms of length, it’s around 300mm longer than the Toyota.
The front of the vehicle has similar characteristics to the previously revealed Traveller, with its squared-off front, blacked-out grille with the Jetour wordmark, and LED headlight design.
The concept also features roof rails, roof storage, flush door handles, large all-terrain tyres, vertical LED tail lights, an LED light bar located on the rear bumper and a spare wheel on the tailgate like that on the Land Rover Defender.
The vehicle is rumoured to have a new-generation four-wheel drive system. Recovery points are located on the front and rear bumpers of the vehicle to assist in tricky situations.
Inside, there’s a digital instrument cluster, while the infotainment touchscreen sits proud of the dash.
The centre console is attached to the dashboard and has an illuminated small storage section at the front, while the transmission lever looks similar to an aeroplane throttle lever.
Chery launched Jetour in China in January 2018, with its first model being the seven-seat X70 SUV.
Jetour says it has sold roughly 660,000 vehicles in its first five years across China, the Middle East, Central and South America as well as Africa.
