The Dacia Jogger is up to #3 in Portugal in September.
14,077 new cars found a buyer in Portugal in September, a 12.6% year-on-year lift. This way, the year-to-date volume is up 34.1% to 153,356 units. Mercedes (+10.6%) trails the market slightly but scores its first monthly win since a year ago in September 2022. It ranks at a much lower #4 year-to-date vs. #3 over the Full Year 2022. Dacia (+74.1%) shoots up to 10.3% share, only the second time it ever passes the 10% milestone alongside June 2022 (10.6%). Peugeot (+8.3%) is soft in 3rd place above a soaring BMW (+69.2%). Citroen (+56.5%), Volkswagen (+54.4%) and Nissan (+22.4%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, Jeep (+482.9%), Mitsubishi (+88.2%), Mini (+62.6%) and Volvo (+61.7%) stand out whereas Tesla drops -22.5% and falls from #2 in August to #16 this month. Newcomer BYD is up three ranks on last month to #31.
Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+48.4%) signs its first win of the year and first since October 2022. It is however stuck in third place year-to-date vs. #2 over the Full Year 2022. The Peugeot 208 (+87.7%) soars year-to-date but drops one spot on August to #2. It is followed by the Dacia Jogger (+854.7%) at #3, by far its best ranking in the country. This is believed to be the Jogger’s highest ranking in the world as it hasn’t yet achieved a podium finish in Romania. The Peugeot 2008 (-5.8%) is in difficulty at #4 but keeps the YTD lead. The Citroen C3 (+333.7%) surges year-on-year and repeats at #4 vs. #15 so far this year. It distances the Renault Clio (+26.1%) and Tesla Model Y (+52.1%) both beating the market also. The Volvo XC40 (+52.8%) and BMW 2 Series (+316.4%) do the same while the Dacia Duster (+11.9%) almost matches the overall growth rate.
