The Dacia Sandero is #1 in Spain for the third consecutive month.
The Spanish new car market continues on its recovery in February, surging 19.2% year-on-year to 74,001 sales. The year-to-date tally is now up 32.1% to 138,039 units, however these results remain way below pre-pandemic February 2020 at -22% for the month and -24% year-to-date. Private sales are the most timid this month at +8.6% to 32,463 and 43.9% share vs. 48.1% a year ago, company sales gain 12.9% to 32,041 and 43.3% share vs. 45.7% in February 2022. By far the most dynamic are sales to rental companies soaring 148.9% to 9,497 and 12.8% share vs. 6.1% last year. Year-to-date, private sales are up 25.3% to 64,489 and 46.7% share vs. 49.3% over the same period a year ago, company sales gain 25.9% to 59,908 and 43.4% share vs. 45.5% and rental sales shoot up 151.4% to 13,642 and 9.9% share vs. 5.2%. The best performing regions for the month are Madrid (+36.3%), La rioja (+33.5%), Castilla la Mancha (+31.1%) and Aragon (+24%).
Over in the brands ranking, the Top 5 disappointingly trail the market. Toyota (+7.4%) holds onto the top spot above Seat (+5.2%) up one rank on January to #2, Peugeot (+14.3%) up three to #3, Kia (+10.7%) down two to #4 and Volkswagen (+10.3%) staying at #5. Renault (+44.3%), Dacia (+125.7%) and Audi (+32.3%) deliver the largest gains in the Top 10 at #6, #8 and #10 respectively. Below, notice in order of sales Skoda (+59.2%), Nissan (+55.8%), Opel for once (+52.5%), MG (+336.9%), Tesla (+46.5%), Suzuki (+166.7%), Porsche (+61.1%), DR Motor (+27100%), Alfa Romeo (+100%) and Lynk & Co (+211.7%) all posting fantastic upticks.
Model-wise, the Dacia Sandero (+186.2%) scores a splendid year-on-year lift to threepeat at #1 and snapping a 4th win in the past 5 months (add October). It resists the Seat Arona (+12.6%) one one spot on last month to #2 while the Peugeot 2008 (+41.9%) lands on the third step of the podium. The Toyota C-HR (+17.1%) drops two ranks to #4, making the February Top 4 identical to Year-to-date. The Seat Ateca (+67.6%) climbs 12 spots on December to #5, its highest ranking at home since January 2021 (#5). The Kia Sportage (+41.8%) is also in great shape at #6 as is the Opel Corsa (+91.7%) at #8. Leader over the Full Year 2022, the Hyundai Tucson (+7%) is relegated to 9th place this month and #10 year-to-date just as the Renault Captur (+67.6%) brilliantly closes the Top 10.
