Daiwa is back to show its ongoing commitment to “muskie” or “musky” anglers with a new reel. The new Prorex LW LC reel is Daiwa’s newest level wind, line countered predator trolling reel made with big esox species in mind. While trolling for Muskie on big water isn’t a new technique, it has had an upward trend in popularity in recent years. Muskies’ habit of being solitary and territorial predators you need to work a lot of water to find these isolationist fish. Trolling does that very well by covering large swaths of water on the large lakes, reservoirs, and rivers that you fish.
The new Prorex LD LC has been made to be up to this high-strain task, they are built like a warhorse and available in two sizes. The frame of the reel is machined out of aluminum, as are the side plates. The large star-drag on the handle side of the reel allows for easy drag manipulation of the Daiwa Ultimate Tournament Drag (UTD). The Prorex also features an easy-to-thumb clutch for quick in and out of free-spool. The spool of the reel is made of machined aluminum and can hold 450 to 660 yards of 40lb J-braid line.
Lastly, the Prorex LW LC features a direct drive built-in line counter on the top of the reel. Giving you exact numbers on how far out you set your lures during the troll. So once you get bit, check the digits on the counter, and replicate that distance again for an easy rinse and repeat. The Prorex LW LC pairs well with 8- to 9-foot muskie trolling rods, like Daiwa’s Prorex series of muskie rods. MSRP for the reels start at $239.99 for the 30 size and $249.99 for the 40 size reel.
