Delta Expands Digital ID to Salt Lake Metropolis

Delta Air Lines has launched its Digital ID facial-recognition identification service at Salt Lake City International Airport, the carrier announced Thursday.

Digital ID uses biometric matching via facing a camera to allow customers to move through security without the need for an agent-facilitated document check. It also gives access to a dedicated Transportation Security Administration PreCheck Touchless ID lane, according to Delta.

The carrier said that Digital ID transactions were about 75 percent faster than standard transactions at bag drop and 60 percent faster at the standard TSA PreCheck checkpoints.

To use the service, customers must have a TSA PreCheck membership, passport information and a Known Traveler Number stored in their Delta profile, a SkyMIles account and the Fly Delta app, according to the carrier.

Delta initially launched Digital ID in 2021 at airports in Atlanta and Detroit, and since has expanded it to Los Angeles and New York‘s LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy International airports. Delta plans to introduce the service at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport “in time for the holiday travel season.”
