Delta to Submit Request for New D.C. Slot

Delta Air Lines has joined the list of U.S. carriers looking to gain one of five new slots that will be made available at Reagan Washington National Airport as part of the recently enacted bill that reauthorized the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, the carrier announced Thursday.

The airline plans to request a route between Washington National and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The carrier made the announcement in Seattle on the day the carrier launched its new Seattle-Taipei service.

Delta joins at least Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines looking for a shot at one of the five new slots. Those carriers in May announced their intentions to apply for one of the openings at Washington National. The formal application process will be administrated by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
